Cap on community solar power

There is a cap on the total amount of new community solar capacity that can be built under current Massachusetts state law. Recently it was announced that the cap had been reached for parts of Western Massachusetts. Until the state legislature raises the cap, community solar farms cannot supply solar power to you and you cannot receive bill credits.

We’ve been here before. An earlier cap was reached in 2012, but due to demand for the program legislators raised the cap. The new cap was reached in 2014 and was raised again. Here we are one more time in 2015. The solar industry, together with public interest groups, are asking Massachusetts legislators to raise the cap further. If you would like to lend your voice, go to this link http://bit.ly/greenlaw15.  It asks for your 9-digit zip code which you must enter including the dash.  A pre-filled letter is given which you can personalize to your state senator and representative.
