The 2023 ATP Finals saw Jannik Sinner secure a victory over Novak Djokovic, which he described as one of the top moments of his career. On November 14, Sinner defeated Djokovic in a round-robin match with a score of 7-5, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (2). This marked Sinner’s first win over Djokovic after three previous attempts. Earlier in the year, Sinner also defeated then-World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals of the Miami Open.
The 22-year-old has shown his prowess by winning six consecutive matches against top-10 opponents and a total of 10 such matches in 2023. Prior to this season, Sinner had only secured nine wins against top-10 players. Despite his recent accomplishments, Sinner remains humble and acknowledged that there is still much to learn from his performance in the match.
With this victory, Jannik Sinner ended Novak Djokovic’s 19-match winning streak, describing the win against the 24-time Grand Slam champion in front of his home crowd as a “top” achievement. Sinner also recognized Djokovic’s impressive form during the match, highlighting the high-level of both players’ performance.
Although Sinner is leading the Green Group with wins against Stefanos Tsitsipas and Novak Djokovic, he still needs to secure a spot in the semifinals. His upcoming match against Holger Rune will determine his qualification for the final four. Rune, who has one win and one loss so far, will face off against Hubert Hurkacz after Tsitsipas’ retirement due to an injury, leading to Hurkacz replacing Tsitsipas in the final round-robin match against Djokovic.
