Alcaraz Reacts to Djokovic’s 400-Week Reign as World No. 1
Carlos Alcaraz has shared his thoughts on Novak Djokovic’s historic achievement of reaching 400 weeks as World No. 1. Djokovic accomplished this milestone after defeating Alcaraz in the semifinals of the 2023 ATP Finals.
The victory secured Djokovic’s eighth year-end No. 1 ranking. He reached 400 weeks as World No. 1 after beating Holger Rune in his first group-stage match at the year-end tournament.
Alcaraz, disappointed by his loss to Djokovic, expressed his admiration for the 24-time Grand Slam champion. Despite his mixed feelings, he stated that Djokovic’s records and consistent victories serve as a source of motivation for him.
“He’s really, really tough. He plays the same level during the whole match. The shot quality he has is unbelievable. He plays really, really deep. It’s really difficult to take advantage from that. Once again, he has shown why he’s the best player in the world,” Alcaraz said regarding his match against Djokovic.
Djokovic’s consistent level of play throughout the match was highlighted by Alcaraz, as the Spaniard praised Djokovic’s skills. Djokovic now holds a 3-2 edge in his head-to-head record against Alcaraz.
Novak Djokovic will now face Jannik Sinner in the summit clash on November 19 to compete for his seventh title at the year-end championship.
