The Indian men’s football team started their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with a 1-0 victory over Kuwait. Manvir Singh’s second-half goal secured the win at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait City on November 16. Head coach Igor Stimac made surprising lineup changes, dropping Lallianzuala Chhangte and Anirudh Thapa. Rahul Bheke and Sandesh Jhingan partnered at the back, while Manvir Singh replaced Chhangte. Apuia Ralte earned his first start since June, joining Suresh Singh Wangjam in midfield. The game began cautiously, with Sunil Chhetri missing a shot for India. The first half ended 0-0 with both teams managing just one shot on target. Kuwait made three changes at halftime, but India’s defense held firm. Chhangte created the winning goal for Manvir Singh, ensuring the Blue Tigers’ resilience secured a 1-0 victory. Their next match is against Qatar on November 21, while Kuwait faces Afghanistan on the same day.
