The PCB has appointed Shan Masood as the new Test captain after Babar Azam stepped down from his leadership role following the 2023 ODI World Cup. Masood recently disclosed details about his conversation with Babar after taking over the captaincy in the red-ball format. The left-handed batter mentioned that they discussed establishing a leadership culture within the team. His captaincy journey will begin with a challenging three-match away Test series against Australia, with the first match scheduled to commence on December 14 in Perth.
Shan Masood spoke about his sudden appointment as Test captain, mentioning that everything unfolded very quickly. He received a call from the PCB and was asked to come to Lahore on short notice. Despite the abrupt nature of his appointment, Masood impressed during Pakistan’s four-day warm-up match against Prime Minister’s XI, where he scored an impressive double century in the first innings, remaining unbeaten on 201 off 298 balls.
Pakistan declared their innings at 391/9 in 116.2 overs, and in response, Prime Minister’s XI reached 149/2 at stumps on Day 2.
