Shopify Rebellion were the favorites to win the championship, having dominated their region and secured a flawless Upper Bracket run. However, they faced a challenge in the Grand Final as their In-game Leader, meL, was unable to play on stage due to a COVID infection. Despite this setback, the team managed to secure the title of world champions after a tough series against Team Liquid.
After the match, Shopify Rebellion player alexis shared that they were able to push past their IGL’s absence by rallying together for meL. With their win, Shopify Rebellion became the VCT Game Changers Champions for 2023, earning a total of $180,000 in winnings.
