Southern Superstars secured a thrilling five-wicket victory over Manipal Tigers in the ninth match of Legends League Cricket 2023. The match took place at Molana Azad Stadium in Jammu. Manipal Tigers chose to bat first and posted a total of 124/9 in 20 overs on a slow wicket. Angelo Perera scored 47* off 34 balls to lead the Tigers’ batting. With the ball, Abdur Razzak, Johan Botha, and Pawan Negi took two wickets each for the Superstars.
In response, Jesse Ryder and Upul Tharanga put up a 60-run partnership for the first wicket. However, the Superstars faced a collapse, losing their next four wickets for just 30 runs. Nevertheless, Shreevats Goswami and Pawan Negi guided their team to victory with two balls to spare. Imran Khan and Praveen Gupta took two wickets each for the Tigers but were unable to defend their modest total.
In the ongoing Legends League Cricket season, Ricardo Powell, Chadwick Walton, and Chris Gayle are the top three run scorers. Parwinder Awana leads the wicket-taking charts, followed by Isuru Udana and Chris Mpofu. Southern Superstars’ Hamid Hassan and Abdur Razzak also feature in the list of leading wicket-takers.
